Tortillas have always been a tradition in our home. I've mentioned it before - it's just been a while. You can read more about that here as well as get the recipe.
Recently, I've been trying to freshen up my tortilla making skills since I have a little girl to pass the maternal secret along to. There is definitely a technique to rolling them. Yes, my mom hand rolls her tortillas - no press here. We've determined that this particular technique is at least five generations old.
On a recent visit, I had my mom help me make some tortillas. No matter how hard I try, hers always turn out so much better than mine. Yes, mine are not perfectly round circles like hers, but there is something else in the texture. We follow the exact recipe but I think it's the way she kneads the dough.
Regardless, they are delicious. Maybe it's just something that will come with age and experience.
Maybe when I'm seventy T Rex Princess will be snapping the photos of me rolling the dough and her babies will be watching and taste testing...
Do you have any traditions that have been passed down to you and you plan on passing along to your children?

Hi - It's Julie from And Baby Makes Three! I somehow can't find your email to reply to the comment on my blog - if you want to send it to jkrs01 @comcast.net I'd love to reply to you! :)
But anyway - I love the tortilla post! I hope to pass along some traditions but we didn't have very many from our own families so we're making our own - like making our own spaghetti sauce, cutting our own Christmas tree, etc. I think having traditions are really great for kids!
I love traditions like this. We don't have any traditions of making things. My mother and grandmother have taken me to the ballet Nutracker every year since I was born. I've taken Anneliese with my mother and grandmother too. It's sweet to see a picture of your mom. She's such a neat lady.

Cool post! Can't wait to try some of those tortillas! Sweet to think of T Rex Princess and you making those some day!
We make molasses sugar cookies every Christmas...and potato soup for christmas eve dinner!
That's a wonderful tradition. We have a Christmas tree decorating tradition that we continue each year. Wonderful photos!
I tried to learn how to make my grandmother's pierogis but it was very very hard to follow her very vague recipe and instructions.
