Advanced Toddlerhood

School started so I've been busy studying every free moment I've had. Although, recently I have not had many free moments. This past weekend T Rex crossed into advanced toddlerhood.

He can climb out of or onto anything! Including his crib and port-a-crib. Anything. He even managed to climb onto the top of the piano minus the piano stool.

With his new found skills I was paranoid that we would harm himself so I took the side of the crib off. I've put up a temporary barrier to prevent him from rolling out of the bed. We're hoping to pick up a twin mattress this weekend.

The first night we tried the new crib set up he would not stay in bed. We started at 8:00 pm and finally after three and a half hours of trying I threw in the towel and put him in bed with us until he fell asleep and then I transferred him to the port-a-crib stationed by our bed.

Last night was also the first night he slept in his crib minus the side but with the safety bar. He can get in and out at will but he did stay in it all night and slept until 6:30 this morning. I hardly slept last night thinking that he might be wandering the house. I think between T Rex Dad and myself we checked on him at least every hour.

And as if that is not all. I went ahead and finished weaning T Rex this past week. When I was not able to keep any food or fluids down while I was sick there was little left for producing milk. Hence, a speedy weaning. I'm kind of sad for both of us but I think almost 19 months was a pretty good run - six of which was exclusive breastfeeding.

Lastly, T Rex has never been much of a talker. Well, like I said, he crossed into advanced toddlerhood. He went from about 7 words to around 50. We have to watch everything we say because he is starting to mimic back to us (hint, hint Uncle Rich).

His favorite word right now is "duck". Anything with a beak and wings is a "duck". His little voice just melts me - especially when he whispers - so sweet!
Or when I ask if he's hungry and he says "yes". I just love it!

I better sign off - I think I hear little T Rex footsteps headed out of his bedroom which means he's awake and ready to play! Luckily for me, Grandma and Grandpa are coming over to play so I can catch up on studying!

19 months of breastfeeding - that's quite an accomplishment! I had to stop at 6 months (medical reasons for me too), and I felt like I deserved a parade for being able to nurse Alex for that long.
I'm glad you're on the mend - I missed your postings while you were under the weather! How's your garden doing?

So glad that you're feeling better. Me too! My blood tests came back and everything looks normal. Hooray! Great photos of T-Rex. He's growing up so fast. He'll be talking so much before you know it. You did a tremendous job breastfeeding! Good luck with all your studies. You are one busy girl these days:)

My first was never a climber but Thomas is a different story and climbs everything. So far(knock on wood) he has not climbed out of his crib. When fall comes he is moving into his brothers room and into a big boy bed so my staying in bed challenge will begin then.

I know exactly what you are talking about with the talking. My little one goes on and on and repeats so much.

Sad to say I weaned the same way after Christmas. I ended up really ill and just didn't have it in me to keep up so it came to an end. It was OK and we got a great amount of time in.

Good luck with the studying, I know it wont be easy with a little helper.

19 months of breastfeeding is awesome! Sounds like you got your hands full with that little guy. Thankfully I've never had sleep problems with my kids...yet. =)

Oh man- I am NOT looking forward to the crib/bed transition! I can't believe that Thomas has gone through so many changes since I last saw him! We miss him! Can't wait to hear him say "yes!" :)

So much new stuff!! I would like to know how you weaned because I think we are almost there too. If you don't want to do a post about it could you please email me at kim.maheu@hotmail.com.

Deaglan has been sleepin in the crib with one side removed but it did take about four nights of letting him cry it out. I put a whole bunch of pillows (throw pillows) in front of the bed but still there is a bit of a drop. He's been really good this week. He even fell off the other night and I just waited it out to see how long he would cry and he did for about five minutes and then I heard his little feet climb back in!
I know about the melting thing too. I can't get enough kisses and recently he has begun grabbing my hand to show me things and I just LOVE it!

I hope you find a good balance with school and home.
