Happy Mothers Day

Today I am thankful for my wonderful mother and all the many things she does for me and our family. She has led an interesting life and I think only recently has she really began to experience utter joy and happiness. It warms my heart to see her looking and feeling so happy and healthy.

Mom stopped over this afternoon to bring me a card for mothers day. In it she wrote, "Thank you for letting me be apart of your lives and enjoy those grand-babies so much." (I think she's just a little smitten with the Little Guy and his Bebe Sis.) I hugged her and said, "No, it is I who have to thank you. Thank you for all you do and did as my mother. And thank you for helping with those grand-babies."

I am also blessed to have a wonderful mother-in-law who brought T Rex Dad into this world and along with my father-in-law raised an amazing man and wonderful father to our kids. I don't know what magic algorithm or parenting technique they subscribed to, but whatever they did, I want the secret. I know of no other man who is so sensitive, caring, supportive, and considerate. (I need more adjectives.)

No, it was not a birthday party, T Rex wanted to sing "Happy Mother's Day" to Nana and insisted on a candle and cake to do so. Cousin Dede is also helping.

Ironically, both mothers thought they were done having kids before either T Rex Dad or myself came along - yep we're both cabooses or "opp's" or "surprises" - however one wants to phrase it. Regardless, we're glad you decided you were not definitely done having kids!

Today I enjoy being a mother to my own children. It is still so surreal to me that I have kids - emphasis on that "s" at the end. I was so driven to be a career woman that I never considered being a wife and mother but rather just thought I would live life checking off goal after goal. It's amazing what happens when one meets the man of her dreams. It turned this career girl into a domestic loving lady and mother to two of the sweetest kids ever.

So, today I am grateful - grateful for the positive people in my life who love and support me, a mother who carried, birthed, and raised me and a mother-in-law who did the same so that I could meet and marry the man of my dreams allowing me to also experience the gift of carrying, birthing, and raising children of my own.

What a beautiful cycle it is. What a beautiful gift motherhood is.

ANd what a beautiful post this is! I agree, you two are a perfect match. I feel the love and support your husband is to you. And it's funny, Shaune's parents often say what your mom said to us. Thanks for letting us be a part of the kids' lives. Like we would have it any other way. Happy Mother's Day beautiful friend. Sick kids over here, so I have not visited too many blogs lately!

Motherhood IS a beautiful gift. I wish I had an 8th day of the week to just sit and soak it all in - it moves so fast.
