When I bring something home from the store for my husband that is not on our shopping list, he calls it "magic beans" because I almost never buy something not on the list. This, of course, referring to Jack and the Beanstock and the beans he brought home.
Yesterday I made my bimonthly grocery trek to Wal-Mart. That is a story in and of itself. Have you ever had the grocery clerk that is way too "friendly"? She had to comment on every thing I purchased. "Oh you must have a little one - look at these finger foods" or "Does this stuff really work?" referring to the hairspray or "Working on a first aid kit?" (My response: "No my dog has cancer and had her paw amputated." I was hoping this would shush her!) Glad I wasn't buying anything too personal!
Sorry to digress...
Anyways, back to the "magic beans". My husband loves bonsai trees. He has had a difficult time keeping the ones he gets alive. Strange because he has had a ficus tree for nearly a dozen years and it is gorgeous. He's been wanting to get another but we just have not had success finding a reasonably priced one that does not look half dead. I thought I found a semi-solution - a bonsai ficus tree for only $10. He seemed pretty excited. As long as it does not grow into a giant bean stock and rain a giant, I'll be happy!
The funny thing is that Skip stopped on his way home from work to get me roses. I do love roses - especially ones from Albertsons. They last a long time and they are relatively inexpensive. He said he wanted to do something for me after the tough week. I thought it was so sweet. What is interesting is that Albertsons no longer sells a dozen roses. They sell them in bunches of ten but charges the same price they used to charge for a dozen. (Skip was most definitely not too happy about that but I guess it is a sign of the times.)
And he could not resist the Elmo balloon for Thomas. Thomas has really gotten into Elmo recently - since he's been reading the Elmo potty book. He'll have an Elmo posting on his blog later today.
So, we all received "magic beans" last night. And it made up for the "friendly" clerk at Wal-Mart!
