Morning Visitors

Yesterday morning I was vacuuming the living room and T Rex grabbed my hand and wanted to show me something. I am so charmed when he takes my hand and drags - yes, drags - me where he wants to go.

Yesterday was no different except he was really persistent. I thought maybe he needed to GP ("go potty") but instead he took me to one of the back windows.

This is what we saw:

T Rex spying on the rock chuck mom through back window.

Last year there was a family of three rock chucks that would stop in and nibble on grass. This year the family has expanded by one - initially just the mom was in the yard - that's who T Rex saw. But then the other three joined in - guess they like our grass best!

Rock chuck dad - too big to fit through the fence.

Dad and baby - you can really see the size disparity.

Rock chuck older sibling

Baby rock chuck - too cute!

They are unbelievably cute and charming. They don't bother us so we just let them nibble away. They do leave a few droppings behind but not any more than the dogs do. T Rex LOVED watching them eat - they are especially cute when eating. He just kept laughing and pointing.

Our rock chuck visitors will probably be around during daylight hours the next couple weeks but as the days get warmer they become nocturnal so we will see less and less of them until they hibernate for the winter.

There are definitely some advantages to living along a nature preserve!

How cool!!! My kids would love that, of course my dogs would scare them away for sure.

OOH! They are so cute! Could you somehow lure them back so that we can see them?

Oh, my kids would get a kick out of those visitors! So cool for T-Rex to be able to watch them from the window:)

Ok, maybe this is a stupid question, remember I live in the city, is that the same thing as a Ground Hog?

Thomas is quite observant to catch them... glad he is keeping an eye on things. The used to eat our flowers though, so watch your garden!

Wow, that's so cool that you live near a nature preserve! I love that T-Rex grabbed your hand and wanted to share with you what he saw, it makes me really wish that my teenager was still like that!
