Wordful Wednesday - Victory Garden Update

I've had a couple inquiries about the status of my garden. The outdoor victory garden seems to be thriving despite some neglecting. (The unborn baby has caused havoc on my system - I'm down 5 lbs and a good day for me is only vomiting 1 -2 times a day. I am hoping that since I'm in the second trimester, things will start to improve soon.) Unfortunately, the indoor garden has not faired so well.

I've been working on a list of what I will grow again and what I won't. On the list for next year's crop: herbs, tomatoes, peas, carrots. What I won't grow: radishes (took up too much space for the amount they yielded), spinach (it easily became diseased), green onions (took too long to grow), cucumbers (cannot grow a single plant to save my life).

Here are some photos:

Sweet pea plants - the birds, especially the quail, seem to really like them. Despite that, we've yielded a fair crop of delicious peas (T Rex Dad's favorite)! These will be on the list of growing next year. There are carrots to the right front.

Here are the herbs (clockwise: parsley, peppermint, basil, dill, and rosemary in the middle). These have done well. The birds ate the dill down to nothing and it grew back completely and it smells delicious!

One of the frogs living in our shed - there were at least a dozen - they were active and talkative - I love frogs in the garden!

It's hard to see, but on this radish plant is a preying mantis - we put out four mantis egg sacs and we've had several in the yard (they keep the wasp and spider problem in check) and we consider them good luck!

The highlight of my garden - the roma tomato plants. I've already harvested a couple excellent tomatoes and the plants are doing fantastically! They were a gift from Shelley for being accepted to nurse practitioner school. Next to them, a couple of the roma plants that I've planted are also starting to come up.

Don't forget, July Giveaway going on now.
Giveaway rules are the same - entries are counted as one comment per blog posting per blog either T Rex Mom and Dad Tales or T Rex Tales. The entries are doubled at the end for followers.

Very cool about the praying mantis! I consider them good luck as well :)

Great garden! All I am growing is zucchini and tomatoes. EVERYTHING else died because of my neglect. UGH

Happy WW!

I'm jealous. My garden consists of three little basil plants that aren't doing very well...lol.

My son would love to add that frog to his collection!

Stopped over from Angie's site. Glad I did.

Gosh- everything looks great! I'm sorry the spinach didn't work out so great for you. Our zucchini was a bust, and our cucumber has had some flowers, but no cucumbers? Hmmm...

Hope you feel better soon. That is interesting about the praying mantis. Your garden is doing well! Those frogs must keep T-Rex's attention.

You put me to shame with all of your gardening and sewing plus toddler plus school plus one on the way. What a superwoman you really are!

I can't believe you're still throwing up and am sending you lots of positive non-nausea energy.

Oh my goodness! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PREGNANCY! And beautiful garden, there really is nothing like garden fresh roma tomatoes. Would you like the best fresh salsa recipe in the world? I happen to posses it.

Very nice! I have to say my garden has gone crazy on me this year. I am picking anywhere from 6 to 8 squash and zucchini every day, my tomato's are all green right now but there are hundreds of them. I don't have a clue what I am going to do when the all turn red at the same time. Oh and my cucumbers are going wild. They are small now but I am going to have tons here soon.

Cucumbers require a lot of water and high nitrogen soil, which they sap quickly. Also, they don't like a hot afternoon sun... Cucumbers were the favorite thing I got out of my garden..

Cool! We had a garden (our season is like Feb-April here)... it did pretty well but started being neglected after I started homeschooling ds#1. I had a TON of tomatoes that I grew in something like these (I can't find the original like to my brand):

Gorgeous garden photos - especially the frog and praying mantis. Princess once was offered a pregnant one which should produce about 200 I was told... for some reason I balked.

Thanks for the honey bee comments and yeah for the bee friendly plants, it is sad when things start dying.

We have a bush full of baby praying mantises ... I guess we won't have to worry about spiders for a while!

And we are growing peas too but I didn't know they should climb up something...I've just had them on the ground. Perhaps I should remedy this!!!!

Hey, at least you live in a place where you can grow things!
I struggle with my garden but I've been able to grow a few things!
I agree with the onions, not worth the time it takes but they are sooo good when you get them!
