Reading...

Our kids love books. I think it has been one of the benefits of not watching TV and only minimal age appropriate shows. It helps, too, they visit the library for Toddler Tales every week. T Rex LOVES the librarian, Ms. Tammy - she does a beautiful job with the kids.

When T Rex and Bebe Sister want some entertainment without toys or crafts, they reach for a book. T Rex Dad has a mantra he sticks to pretty carefully, if one of the kids brings him a book and asks to read, he stops what he is doing and reads the book. As long as he's not walking out the door, he complies. I often see him mid-dishes sitting on the kitchen floor reading to one or both of the kids. Plus, there is story time before bed time. Good Night Moon gets so much action we have two copies.

The other day I was touched when I saw them reading to each other. One of those priceless moments. Here they are reading Thomas the Tank books checked out from the library. I think we have every Thomas the Tank book on loan at the moment. It's not just T Rex that's into them either. Bebe Sister LOVES trains, too.

How do you promote reading in your home?

Aww this is great! :) That's sooo cute that they were reading together!! :) And I think it's AWESOME that daddy is reading to them too! :)

I have just recently been trying to incorporate more reading (and less barney lol) by reading to him whenever I just dont know what else to do with him through the day lol :) I also find appropriate books that I enjoyed when I was an older kid and read aloud to him while he's playing :)

Sooo cute! Love baby sister's Hanna dress!

Both our boys love to read too- Isaac brings me books constantly, but I don't have Trex Dad's patience! I should though! Joseph only wants to read super hero books mostly and those are PAINFUL!

oh yes, and something I have started doing is reading to them during lunch time! It is a good way for me to have them both sitting still and Joseph usually will eat lots more fruits and veggies if he isn't paying attention!

Oh I loved Thomas the Train books. Luke loved Thomas and we own probably every Thomas book that was made or at least made about 4 years ago. Now my youngest loves to read but he doesn't like Thomas the Train. He wants to read Batman, Spider Man, he was shocked the other day when I made his brother read "Stop That Ball", he had no idea his brother could read. I guess if he isn't reading to his brother he isn't reading. Luke started 3rd grade and we implemented 30 minutes a night of reading (out loud) to mom and dad. So one parent reads with one child, and one parent has to read to the other child. My only problem with bed time books is they don't want to stop, read more, read this one, etc... They would keep me their all night long.
I have so missed catching up on all you guys have been doing. I really need to post but way to busy for now so it will have to wait. Garden, canning, house siding, painting projects, back to school for Luke, soccer season, oh and I now have a broken toe, so I have little free time these days.

You know what, we have the same policy as T Rex Dad. I drop just about whatever I'm doing if Deaglan asks me to read. And we read every night - on this I am quite indulgent. One more book always gets a response out of me. We also go to the library most Saturdays. Deaglan has his own library card which he delights in using.

And I love the pictures of them together. We've had a few of those moments already and it warms me.

We love the library. I bring my kids there all the time. My house is full of books. It's a little more challenging to get my teen son to read these days. The computer is a big pull. I have to research some good authors for him. Jillian loves reading. She will sit with books for hours and hours.

Cute pictures.
