Recently, I've been trying to freshen up my tortilla making skills since I have a little girl to pass the maternal secret along to. There is definitely a technique to rolling them. Yes, my mom hand rolls her tortillas - no press here. We've determined that this particular technique is at least five generations old.
On a recent visit, I had my mom help me make some tortillas. No matter how hard I try, hers always turn out so much better than mine. Yes, mine are not perfectly round circles like hers, but there is something else in the texture. We follow the exact recipe but I think it's the way she kneads the dough.
Regardless, they are delicious. Maybe it's just something that will come with age and experience.
Maybe when I'm seventy T Rex Princess will be snapping the photos of me rolling the dough and her babies will be watching and taste testing...
Do you have any traditions that have been passed down to you and you plan on passing along to your children?
